Dear Friends, At the recent ASLA Annual Meeting in Los Angeles I represented you at the Board of Trustees Meeting. One of the highlights of the meeting is approving the annual operating plan. The highlights of the plan can be broken down into three areas: mission, highest priority strategic objectives, and special focus. The mission of the plan is to:
Respond to Board evaluation and ranking of strategic objectives and programs
Respond to SWOT and strategic planning discussions
Target resources strategically to priority objectives and areas of special focus
The highest priority strategic objectives are:
Promote and defend licensure and LA's right to practice
Advance image, visibility and understanding of the profession
Promote laws and regulations that: advance the design, planning, and stewardship of the natural and built environment; and support the business practice of LA
Keep the profession and the ASLA in the lead on critical and emerging practice areas
The special focus is:
Supporting and engaging emerging professionals
Career discovery and diversity
Bringing LA expertise to bear to address climate change
I look forward to continuing this discussion with you, to receive your input, and to respond to questions you may have after you review the annual operating plan at www.asla.org
