Mahan Rykiel Associates Landscape Architecture Scholarship

Mahan Rykiel has established this $2,500 scholarship to recognize the firm’s history of being a Women’s Business Enterprise/Minority Business Enterprise (WBE/MBE) over the past 40+ years. As a firm that has a rich history of diversity, this scholarship is intended to assist students that are women and/or minorities who are pursuing a degree in landscape architecture. Our goal is to celebrate the diverse backgrounds and talents of those who will be the future leaders in our profession.


Selection Process & Awards

The Maryland Chapter Board will establish a selection committee as approved by the Committee and Mahan Rykiel. They have sole responsibility for selecting the scholarship recipient. Scholarship awards will be made directly to the educational institution or its affiliated foundation. Funds may be used for the Winter 2024, Spring 2025, Summer 2025 or Fall 2025 terms.


Expectation of Awardees

The Maryland Chapter offers scholarship opportunities in furtherance of its mission to promote the profession of landscape architecture statewide through advocacy, education, communication, and fellowship. Accordingly, awardees will be expected to:

(1) Attend the Maryland ASLA Chapter annual awards gala (at Maryland ASLA Chapter's expense);

(2) Provide the Maryland ASLA Chapter with information about their subsequent graduation and employment for purposes of the chapter's evaluation of the scholarship and fellowship program;

(3) Provide a Headshot and write-up for the next issue of EMBARK.


Eligibility

The Mahan Rykiel Landscape Architecture Scholarship is open candidates that meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Undergraduate or graduate students who identify as a women and/or are minorities.

  • Undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled in a LAAB-accredited program within the State of Maryland, or residents of Maryland that are attending LAAB-accredited programs at out of state institutions.

  • Eligible candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have at least one semester of study remaining as an underclassman or graduate student.

  • Candidates must demonstrate a passion for landscape architecture.
