Dear friends and colleagues,
The Regional Conference is currently underway as you are reading this letter. I would like to thank The Potomac and Virginia Chapters for all their hard work to pull this together and offer LACES credits to our members and give us some insight into the latest and greatest knowledge and projects in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Speaking of CEUs, as you may have seen, our state’s licensure requirement is getting a needed overhaul to clarify and codify the requirements. The number of total credits remains the same at 24, but how you can get them will be made much easier. You can now get a portion of your credits from other programming, such as AIA or USGBC or taking college courses. The list is almost endless. There will be requirements for the number of HSW credits, similar to other jurisdictions around the country. There will be a public hearing on June 12th at 1PM to review the new requirements and an opportunity to provide comments. I would like to thank all those involved who helped form these requirements, especially our chapter members, Patrick Whealton, Chris Schein, Dr. Chris Ellis, Sarah Trautvetter and the Chair, Grace Fielder. This is especially more important this year as Governor Wes Moore recently signed into law SB 716 which extends our licensure in Maryland through 2034. We are grateful to be in a state that holds the importance of licensure and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of our citizens.
Have a wonderful summer!
Best,
Joe Ignatius PLA, ASLA, LEED Green Associate MDASLA President 2021-2023
